Safeguarding Children in Shropshire and positive feedback for PIT Stop
At a previous meeting of the Shropshire Safeguarding Community Partnership Childrens Safeguarding Partnership, it was agreed that the data shared with partners shows that levels of harm are starting to fall and that for the first time since 2021, the number of children in care is going down and more children are being returned to their families.
The PIT Stop service recently received feedback as follows:
A staff member asked further questions following a home visit from Shropshire Recovery Partnership which highlighted a previous drug test on one of the residents. The staff member used professional curiosity to follow up on the result of that test and another staff member was really helpful, digging through the systems and discovered the resident had tested positive for drug use and admitted to using twice that week. The initial staff member then took control as chair of a meeting to ask further questions to truly identify the risk. This then escalated to a level 4 given the risk to the children in the home and led to an appropriate response. The staff member contacted each agency involved to ask for their opinions which led to positive engagement.
The senior leaders who form the Childrens Safeguarding Partnership commended staff working in Shropshire for their hard work in safeguarding children in the county.

“It’s OK to Ask” initiative
The Patient Experience Team have launched the ‘It’ OK to Ask’ initiative at the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
The campaign is a national one! The premise is to empower patients to ask questions about their healthcare when they don’t understand any aspect of their care plan. The local questions, leaflet and posters have been with patient partners as a true co-produced piece of work.
There is a separate leaflet for children coproduced with the Youth Experience Panel.
