Mobile Phone Emergency Alert - 23rd of April 2023

The government are testing a mobile phone emergency alert on the evening of the 23rd of April 2023. The message will say

"This is a test of emergency alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there is a life threatening emergency nearby."

This is a test. You do not need to do anything

All mobile phones and tablets will get this alert and Your mobile phone or tablet does not have to have Wi-Fi or mobile data to get the message.

You can choose not to have the alerts if you want to - To do this you need to:

  • Find emergency alerts in your settings
  • Turn off severe alerts and extreme alerts
  • If this does not work you should ask your phone provider how to do it

If you know anyone who has a secret mobile phone to keep them safe, please tell them to switch it off or put it on aeroplane mode. This will stop the test message from coming through

If you need more information, then this can be found on the Her Majesty's Government Website

Or on the Shropshire Council website

Refuge have also created a web page which shows how to secure your phone, which you can find on the Refuge Website
